Classic in-frame bathroom by Freshwater Interiors Ltd

The client wanted to achieve a more practical layout for their family bathroom.

With their original room being small with an airing cupboard imposing on the space, only a shower over a bath and the WC located in an adjacent room. The floor plan of this area was disjointed and inadequate to meet their needs. Not only was the layout a major requirement, but achieving a wow factor in the space was a definite must on their wish list. The client desired a classical look, which would be in keeping with the rest of the property. They expressed a love for a neutral colour palette and natural stone products to achieve a timeless room that would not date in years to come. Being the sole room in the house with a bath, supplying a beautiful freestanding slipper bath was a priority to create a spa like retreat for them and their guests.

We went to the customers home for an initial site visit; this helped us gain insight into the type of property that we needed to consider whilst designing. We always try to step into the client’s shoes and interpret their wish list in the best way possible. The client also showed me photos of their Oxford residence that they recently sold, this gave me an insight into their style. We produced 3D computer renders, various layouts and product boards to help the customer visualise the space.

We used the Tetbury curved vanity unit with 2 doors & 2 drawers in colour a bespoke colour to achieve the elegant look the client desired. Being able to choose a bespoke colour for the vanity unit to complement the marble and travertine tiles made the room extra special.

For the finishing touches of the bathroom, we used Laufen & Geberit for sanitaryware, Samuel Heath brassware, Hansgrohe Shower, Victoria and Albert Bath, Silestone worktop by Cosentino, Original Style tiles, JIS Radiator, Astro Lighting, Warmup underfloor heating.

The client initially wanted a fully tiled room, however, due to the height of the ceilings the decision was made to use a classic picture rail instead. This was in keeping with the rest of the house and allowed for a less enclosing room. This bespoke item was machined to match the original joinery in the house, along with the architrave in the hallway.

Designers comment by Bethan Morgan:

If you are planning a new bathroom it is a good idea to write a wish list of the things you need in your new room, e.g. storage, overhead and handheld shower, large bath, illuminated mirror etc, this will help your designer to understand what your requirements are. At the same time, you need to be realistic. Know what your budget is and create your wish list based on items that will be achievable for the amount you want to spend.

It is also a good idea to keep an ideas board. Whether it is images you find online or in magazines, you will start to see a recurring trend through your photos which will determine the style you like the most.
